GET TO KNOW HOGAR DE NIÑOS FÁTIMA

Hogar de Niños Fátima (Fátima’s Children’s Home) was founded in 2002 by a Guatemalan attorney and continues to be run and staffed by Guatemalans. For over seventeen years we have provided a home to some of Guatemala’s most vulnerable infants and children. The children in our care have been abused or abandoned or are victims of family disintegration.  Our primary mission is to protect children whose rights have been violated, and provide our children with love and support in a family setting.

We have space for 42 children ages 0 and up. Children arrive at our home after a referral from family court, the National Adoption Counsel and the Guatemala National Prosecutor's Office. Referrals occur in cases where children between the age of 0-7 cannot safely remain in their homes, or do not have a home and are in the process of resolving the legality of finding a permanent home through a return to their biological families or the adoption process.

Our home is built and staffed to provide children of all ages with high levels of specialized care and attention for as long as they need care. Many of the children we receive are malnourished and have suffered physical abuse and psychological trauma. We provide all our children with basic necessities, pediatric care, psychological support, and the love of a family.

In addition to our daily work, we strive to redefine shelters and go beyond providing material support by hiring professionals who help our children learn social skills while regaining their confidence. We are not a shelter, or an orphanage, we are a family dedicated to providin dignity, trust, respect, and love.
